PerformanceProject’s ‘Mother Tongue’ to include new stories

NORTHAMPTON — The Performance Project, a nonprofit that offers arts programs to break down barriers and build communities, is expanding its original performance, “Mother Tongue,” a multilingual theater piece inspired by events and stories from around the world that explore culture, language, diaspora, identity, and the school-to-prison pipeline through music, dance and stories.

“Mother Tongue” premiered in December 2022, and has been praised for its powerful storytelling and diverse cast. The expanded tour will include around 25 new shows at high schools, theaters, universities, festivals, and conferences in the months ahead.

“Mother Tongue” will be performed on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m., at the Unitarian Society of Northampton and Florence, 220 Main St.

Visual historical tour of Wildwood Cemetery

AMHERST — Rebecca Fricke, general manager of Wildwood Cemetery, will offer a visual historical tour of the cemetery, and identify its colorful and famous residents, during a presentation at the Amherst Woman’s Club, 35 Triangle St., Monday at 1:30 p.m.

The talk is free and open to the public.

Those who come are encouraged to follow the presentation with a walk through the Strong Street cemetery.

Pickleball tourney to debut at South Hadley’s Fall Fest

SOUTH HADLEY — Buttery Brook Park brings fall pickleball tournaments, accompanied by live music and a cornhole tournament, as part of the park’s Fall Fest.

Eight different divisions of pickleball tournaments begin Friday and continue through Sunday. The cornhole event, along with music and food trucks, takes place Saturday.

The festivities are free to attend.

All activities will occur at the north entrance, but organizers request attendees to enter through the south entrance.
