The Amherst Golf Club held its Senior Club Championship last weekend and four different trophies were awarded.
Paul Appleby took home half of the hardware, winning the Rocking Chair Net Senior Club Championship with a net 64 and the Roy Gage Trophy for low net for players over 65.
Deron Estes won the Shumway Trophy with a gross score of 77 and Jay Morgan won the Kuzmiski Trophy for players over 65 with a gross score of 79.
Youth baseball
A five-run first inning catapulted Amherst past Brattleboro, 7-4, in Koufax Division action of its Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League season-opener on Sunday.
Gus Garrett Peltier highlighted the initial onslaught with a double to left field, while Cyrus Arwade, Oliver Howard, Nick Stinson and Agho Mankin complimented the Hurricanes on offense with hits during the first.
Arwade and Garrett Peltier picked up the win and save from the mound.
Northampton summer field hockey
Registration is now open for Northampton Parks & Recreation’s Summer Field Hockey program. Youth ages 10-14 can participate in this skill-based program led by NHS varsity field hockey coach, Meshia Begin.
This program will be offered for three different Wednesday sessions: August 5, 12 and 19 from 3– 5 p.m. at Ray Ellerbrook Field, 50 Burts Pit Road. Registration and additional information can be found online at www.northamptonma.gov/recreation.
