I cannot understand why the Gazette chose to publish Howard Friel’s rant about the current political fiasco in its April 26 edition.
And why did he write it? If Friel thought his tirade would gain support for Sen. Sanders, it had the opposite effect, at least for me.
It strengthened my sense that the Sanders campaign is not innovative but, rather, ill-conceived while evoking ugly memories from the past. To be specific, Friel extols the ancient fortress America principle. I had foolishly hoped that narrow world view had vanished in disgrace in December 1941, along with Charles Lindbergh and the isolationist America First Committee.
I fear the Sanders campaign is just isolationism in a new 2016 guise.
