NORTHAMPTON — The Northampton School Committee voted unanimously on Tuesday to ratify a tentative agreement with the Northampton Association of School Employees, the union that represents school workers including teachers, custodial staff and educational support professionals.
Two weeks ago, city and school union representatives reached a tentative agreement on three-year contracts covering all unionized school employees after six months of negotiations. The tentative agreement includes a 3-percent raise every year for the next three years for teachers and raises for other groups like cafeteria workers.
The School Committee was expected to vote on the tentative agreement at their meeting last week, but a clerical error — a missing letter — stalled the decision. In a special meeting Tuesday night, called specifically for the ratification vote, superintendent John Provost told the committee that both NASE and the committee signed off on fixing the error.
Committee members all voted to ratify the agreement. NASE expects to hold its ratification vote later this month.
