David Zimiki’s fever dream of an op-ed, “The sovietization of America,” might have deserved a place on your editorial page — 60 years ago!

I mean, really? Having been swept up and tossed out on the ash heap of history, we are meant to believe, or even be slightly persuaded, that the Soviet Union continues to control our destiny? It did not do so, domestically, even when it was a superpower!

From 1917-1967, the United States was caught up in its own turmoil as Americans fought for their rights as workers, women and African-Americans — for liberty and justice for all. We needed no “seeding” from the USSR. All our domestic trouble was homegrown.

What the column really shows is the paucity of imagination and critical thinking on the part of conservatives today. They seem to be either Trump stooges, repeating every bigoted stereotype and half-brained conspiracy; or muddleheaded Henny Pennies crying (demanding?) that the sky is falling, while studying their feet.

I support the idea of more (quality) conservative views on the op-ed page, but where, oh where, are they?
