FLORENCE – Students at R.K. Finn Ryan Road School held their first Harvest Celebration on Friday, with each class taking a short visit to the gardens they’ve tended over the last year. There was nothing much to see in the plots themselves, which had been put to bed, but several tables around the garden were filled with the “fruits” of the students’ labors. One of the most popular tables featured ears of popcorn which the students shelled and then cooked right on the spot in a popcorn popper. Instant gratification, all in the name of Outdoor Science Education. The school’s garden and celebration were a collaboration with School Sprouts Educational Gardens and Grow Food Northampton, which provided other locally grown goodies during the afternoon, and support from the Northampton Education Foundation.
