■The bin has been emptied, but lots of rubbish remains at the mini-refuse transfer station on Locust Street. This past weekend was the first the Board of Public Works has allowed trash to be brought to the station in addition to household garbage, and the 6-cubic-foot bin proved too small. A 10-foot bin is reportedly on the way.
■Duane F. Robinson of 34 Main St., Amherst, has been named manager of the Academy of Music Theatre in Northampton. Robinson, advertising manager and controller at House of Walsh, Amherst, since 1964, has been associated with the Amherst Cinema since 1953.
■Kevin Eastman, co-creator of the Mutant Ninja Turtles, has purchased the Batmobile. The low-slung convertible, whose menacing fins and fancy gadgetry careened their way to fame in the 1989 Michael Keaton movie, will be unveiled at Eastman’s Words & Pictures Museum of Fine Sequential Art on Aug. 8. The vehicle is now in storage at the Northampton Airport.
■The same weather pattern that brought the region a snowy winter has hung around for the summer, bringing the cool, wet weather that has dominated the season, meteorologists say. With a stubborn pressure system holding in place, rainfall is sharply up, and temperatures are down.
■Northampton’s new trash bag program is set to go this week. Trash bag stickers will no longer be sold. Residents are being told to use official medium and large blue trash bags that are on sale in local stores.
■South Hadley School Superintendent Gus Sayer has unexpectedly announced that he will retire. Members of the School Committee confirmed Tuesday night that Sayer, who has led the town’s public school system for about eight years, sent a letter to the board last month announcing that he would step down Oct. 1.
