The Hampshire Regional softball team matched up with a red-hot Longmeadow squad on Friday night, completing a 5-3 comeback victory after facing an early deficit.
Entering the fifth inning, the Raiders were down 3-1, loading the bases for Reagan Dubay. The junior came through with a single, driving in a run, with an error leading the way for two more runs to cross the plate.
With a one-run lead, Hampshire relied on Ryanne Dubay in the pitcher’s circle, who finished the night strong. The junior earned the win, pitching seven innings while allowing two earned runs and tallying nine strikeouts.
Offensively, Rachael Hickox, Lucy Trombley, and Kalin Dubay each collected two hits for the Raiders. Mariah Pacinella drove in the lone other run for Hampshire in the win.
The victory is the Raiders’ second in a row, hoping to stay hot on Tuesday, April 28, at 4 p.m., when they host Agawam back at home.
Mohawk Trail 20, Smith Academy 0 — The Falcons struggled to keep up with an impressive Warriors squad that was firing on all cylinders.
Quinn Carlson had five strikeouts for Smith Academy in the loss, while offensively, Emma Tisdell and Marissa Belina each hit one double and Millie Barszcz tallied a single.
Girls lacrosse
South Hadley 12, Granby 3 — The Tigers rode an early lead, spreading out their scoring to take home a comfortable win over the Rams.
Six different players tallied a goal for South Hadley, with Dee Habor making 21 saves in net. Granby also spread its three goals out among three players, with Faith Ramos earning seven saves between the pipes.
Baseball
South Hadley 5, Holyoke 2 — Griffin Soderbaum led the Tigers to a close home victory over the Purple Knights, finishing 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI while throwing three shutout innings on the mound.
Carter Felsentreger led Holyoke with two hits, driving in both of his team’s runs in the loss.
Hampshire 13, Southwick 2 — The Raiders’ bats came to play on Friday, with Brayden Billups leading the way with three RBIs.
Joe Moro and Tom Moore each drove in two of their own in the victory, while Colin Hogan picked up the win with an efficient 60-pitch effort where he allowed one run, four hits and had four strikeouts.
Frontier 15, Amherst 2 — The Hurricanes struggled to come back after a rough third inning where they allowed 11 runs to an impressive RedHawks offense.
Daniel Lebron tallied one hit in the loss for Amherst, with the team’s defense struggling to the tune of seven errors and 12 unearned runs.
Boys Volleyball
Westfield 3, Granby 0 — The Rams dropped a tough battle against the Bombers on Friday, losing 19-25, 16-25, 22-25 in three sets.
Nathan Walsh led Granby with seven kills in the loss, while Braeden Gallagher tallied five kills of his own, along with a team-high eight digs.
Outdoor Track
William Kane Invitational — Amherst, Belchertown, Easthampton, Hampshire, Holyoke, Northampton and South Hadley all competed in various events on Friday morning.
Jahmai Proctor finished first in the boys high jump for the Hurricanes (5-08.00). Aubrey Klingensmith took the top spot in the girls javelin for the Orioles (117-11). The Raiders combined for a first-place finish in the girls 4x800m relay (10:39.41).
Addison Rodriguez came in first in the girls shot put for the Purple Knights (30-10.25). The Blue Devils had two first-place finishes: Hazel Sanderson in the girls 400m hurdles (1:16.39), and Keira Cole in the girls one mile (5:26.74).
