Praises saving of PVPA music tour

To say that the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School’s music department director Frank Newton is an inspiration to us all is an understatement (“PVPA music students hit high note, save trip,” April 2).

As a parent who was immediately motivated to get involved in the fundraising effort to “save the music tour,” I have never been so proud as I was when I witnessed the tsunami of support outpouring from students, parents, teachers, administrators, and the greater PVPA community who came together to overcome obstacles, raise funds and make this tour happen. Why were we so motivated?

Because it was Newton’s dream and unwavering passion, musical direction, love of our kids, and blood, sweat and tears to undertake this ambitious trip that has been an inspiration to our children and to all of us. It is his vision of possibilities that they will take with them as they move forward with their lives. That is the kind of teaching and leading that makes a difference well into the future.

To all of the contributors, businesses and families who helped make this vision a reality by helping us raise an astounding $25,000 in five days, I offer my heartfelt thank you.

These 65 students will never forget this music tour, the dream that inspired it, or the efforts that went into saving it. And that is one heck of a lesson.
