SOUTH DEERFIELD — Bees will be buzzing, mead will be pouring and honey will be flowing on South Mill River Road Saturday during Warm Colors Apiary’s 2016 Honey Festival.

“We’re getting things spruced up and getting ready,” said Bonita Conlon, who co-owns the apiary with her husband, Dan Conlon.

The event organized by the Conlons will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free and “open to anyone with an interest in bees and beekeeping.” Along with presentations about bees, and one by Marian and Ed Szymanski about “plants for pollinators” at 11 a.m., local beekeepers will available throughout to answer questions.

Not only is the event an opportunity to sample honey, Artisan Beverage Cooperative’s mead, and honey ice cream made by Flayvors of Cooks Farm in Hadley, it is a chance to learn about the local 80-acre bee farm, which, among other things, supplies bees to pollinate local farmers’ crops.

Starting at noon, pastry chef Pam Adams will make treats and present “Baking with Honey,” as she “combines good taste with healthy eating.”

At 1 p.m. Dan Conlon will present research on bees and an update on bee health. At 2 p.m., Will Savitri from Artisan Beverage Cooperative will talk about making mead.
