When not shooting in his Easthampton studio, commercial photographer David Ryan has spent his free time roaming the back roads of western Massachusetts in search of old and dilapidated doorways — portals that, he says, “tell a story — or at least whisper one — from times gone by.” Last year he collected his many images and published them in a book called “Past Passages,”which is also the title of an exhibit of his work set to open Saturday at Nash Gallery in Easthampton.

Running 5-8 p.m. in conjunction with the Easthampton Art Walk and the Easthampton BookFest, the reception will begin with an artist talk and slide presentation by Ryan.

The show runs through May 11. Hours at Nash Gallery at 40 Cottage St. are Tues.-Fri., 11-6; Sat., 11-4. 529-9393
