Gotta get me some bone broth! Sounds a bit savage doesn’t it.

Apparently bone broth has turned into quite a trend. I started hearing about the purported benefits of bone broth over a year ago, but it seems to be gaining steam as the new cure-all-restorative-go-to food. It is going to change your life. All the celebs are trying it and talking about it. The hell with gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, all you need is bone broth and you will be a whole new person.

From your digestion to weight-loss to energy, and everything in between, a cup or two of bone broth daily will take care of it, they say.

Hold the bus. Isn’t bone broth just stock like the stuff I make out of a chicken carcass? Well, come to find out, yes, it is. Didn’t our mothers and grandmothers make broth for us when we were ailing — maybe with a little rice or some noodles in it? Usually it did make me feel better.

Bone broth— or stock, as I like to call it— is nothing new, that’s for sure. So, why the sudden excitement. I think it’s newbies just making the good old stuff new again and acting like they invented it. Hate to tell you bone broth-ers you didn’t. This curative concoction has been around since, well, forever.

Making stock, or bone broth is easy. Throw any kind of bones in a pot with water and some aromatic vegetables and simmer for a few hours. Voila! Bone broth.

If you haven’t tried it I guess you better. Because it sounds like a miracle cure.

And if it doesn’t fix everything that ails you can still make some nice soup out of it.

Yeah, bone broth is basically stock or broth that has simmered for a longer time, usually overnight or even longer.

I usually like to go straight for the beef bone marrow, sawed in half the long way, then roasted before putting it on a plate before my watering eyes.

It’s so good I feel it in my marrow, or bones if you will.

Matter of fact, I’m off to the store to stock up on marrow bones.

And yes, my dog may get some. Have to keep him healthy as well.
