UMass got the better of both ends of a rivalry day against UConn as the baseball and softball teams each beat their traditional rivals.
The softball team used three homes runs to beat the Huskies, 7-4 in Storrs, Connecticut.
UMass trailed 4-3 heading into the top of the fifth, but Ashton Wince doubled home Tara Klee to tie the game and ignite the offense of the Minutewomen (15-21).
Erin Stacevicz (3 for 3, three runs) led off the sixth with a double, and Jena Cozza and Taylor Carbone (2 for 3, run, two RBIs) followed with back-to-back home runs to make it 7-4.
Cozza had two home runs and four RBIs in the game.
Longmeadow’s Jill Stockley, whose aunt Lynn Stockley was a standout pitcher for UMass, took the loss for UConn.
Dylan Morris had a similarly memorable day for the UMass baseball team. The junior center fielder had a single, double, triple, two runs scored and five RBIs as the Minutemen edged the Huskies, 9-5, at Earl Lorden Field in Amherst.
UMass (8-17) scored four times in the fourth inning and kept UConn at arm’s length.
Smith College 7, Brandeis 1; Brandeis 12, Smith College 4 — Allison Snyder had a grand slam in the game one victory for the Pioneers (10-18) and two hits and a run in the second game.
