Meg Colleran allowed four hits in 3 scoreless innings of relief as the UMass softball team beat Boston College, 4-2, Thursday in Amherst.
Colleran struck out three and walked one.
Tara Klee hit a two-run home run in the first inning to give UMass (16-21) an early lead.
Boston College came back to tie it at 2-2, but the Minutewomen added single runs in the fifth and sixth inning to pull away.
Jenn Cozza scored on an error in the fifth after walking to get on base.
Bridget Deveau took first place for UMass at the Holy Cross Heptathlon.
Deveau was first in the long jump (17 feet, 10.25 inches) and the javelin (135-9). She also placed second in the 800-meter run (2 minutes, 23.16 seconds).
Deveau finished the competition with 4,894 points, which broke her own school record.
UMass got a second-place finish from Nick Ingham at the Holy Cross Decathlon.
Ingham was first in the 110-meter hurdles (16.11). He also finished tied for second in the pole vault (13-5.35).
