As we neared the approach of Earth Day last week, I and others have been enjoying the coming of spring – the greening of Earth is always thrilling, even after an easy winter.
But along with the joy is the sorrow that the last two years have been the hottest on record, as climate change works its effects on Earth.
I write to urge Massachusetts residents to contact their state and federal legislators to demand action, in particular to pass a fee on carbon.
A carbon fee will have one of the most powerful, most immediate effects in reducing carbon use and the release of greenhouse gases which are heating up the planet.
It will cut carbon emissions in half in 20 years, add jobs, and is championed by leaders such as Cummington resident former Secretary of State George Schulz, who calls such a fee a no-risk “insurance policy.”
We celebrate the Earth every year for providing us with sustenance and beauty. It’s time to express our gratitude by taking steps to rein in the carbon that is changing Earth’s climate.
Will you make a call or email on behalf of the Earth?
Your Mother will be grateful!
