AMHERST — Elkhansaa Elguenaoui, who served as president of the Muslim Student Association in 2014, will be the student speaker at the Undergraduate Commencement at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Elkhansaa Elguenaoui of Medford, who will speak to about 5,500 undergraduates at McGuirk Alumni Stadium at the event on Friday, May 6, 4:30 p.m., called serving in that role one of her most proud achievements as a student at UMass.

The double major in neuroscience and psychology, with a minor in biology, also said she was most proud of serving as a resident assistant and traveling to Turkey where she tuaght English and worked as a hospital intern.

She also participated in interfaith programs on campus as part of the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life and played intramural soccer at UMass.

After graduation, Elguenaoui plans to go backpacking in Europe and then work in neuroscience research for two years. After that, she hopes to go to medical school.

The university will also recognize computer science and math dual major Timothy Contois of Danvers and operations and information management and computer science double major Bianca Tamaskar of Westford as Jack Welch scholars.
