AMHERST — Less than a week after police arrested an intoxicated man who entered a downtown home, another man was taken into custody by police after he allegedly walked into a North Amherst residence and passed out Saturday night.

Detective Jamie Reardon said officers were called by Meadow Street residents at 9:29 p.m. after returning home and finding a man sleeping in the living room, having apparently gotten in through an unlocked front door.

Tanios Nicholas Abi-Saad, 19, of Scituate, was arrested on charges of disturbing the peace and trespassing, Reardon said.

On April 26, a man was arrested after forcing his way into a Cottage Street home, and becoming combative with officers.

The Saturday incident was one of 204 calls for service during the weekend, the last before commencement at the University of Massachusetts.

At 2:24 a.m. Saturday, police responded to the intersection of Amity Street and University Drive for a fight involving about 20 people, including one person who was allegedly struck by a pipe.

Christian Teaque Fernandes, 23, of Pittsfield, was arrested at the scene on a charge of disorderly conduct, Reardon said.

While police found a man unconscious when they got there, when he awoke he refused to tell police anything about what happened. He was taken by Amherst Fire Department ambulance to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for treatment. Reardon said no pipe or other weapon was found.

Police responded to several noise complaints, and officers took enforcement actions at 167 College St. at 11:58 p.m. Saturday, where a 21-year-old Marshfield man and two 20-year-old Huntington, New York, men were issued $300 tickets for violating the town’s noise bylaw, Reardon said.

Police also went to Gilreath Manor Apartments on Hobart Lane at 11:54 p.m. Friday for a loud party and a campfire. At 1:15 a.m., officers dispersed the large crowd and called firefighters to put out several fires.
