Candidates for three political offices will share an event Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Goshen Congregational Church, Main Street (Route 9).
The event was originally slated to be held at Goshen Town Hall but had to be moved across the road due to lead paint removal at the municipal building.
The event will feature six announced Democrats running for three offices in the Sept. 8 state primary: Andrea Harrington and Adam Hinds (Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire & Hampden District state senate), Patrick J. Cahillane and Kavern Lewis (Hampshire County sheriff) and Mary E. Hurley and Jeffrey S. Morneau (8th District Governor’s Council).
The event is sponsored by the Hilltown Democratic Coalition made up of Democrats in eastern Berkshire, western Hampshire and western Hampden counties.
“With no statewide races this year, these down-ballot contests for open seats will be critical for many voters of the Hilltowns and western Massachusetts,” said Elizabeth Bell-Perkins, chair of the Goshen Democratic Town Committee, which is co-sponsoring the forum with the Democratic committees in Chesterfield and Worthington.
Each candidate will be allowed to make a two-minute opening statement and then the floor will be open for questions to the candidates from residents and voters.
Worthington Democratic Chair Helen Sharron offered a specific reason for voters to attend. “Rural citizens are often the canaries in the coal mines of the real issues that face our country. It feels to me that common sense and wisdom are more abundant here. This is why a dialog on issues brought forth by our friends and neighbors is so important, for the candidates, and for the voters,” she said in a statement provided by the coalition.
