May is National Foster Care Month. April was National Child Abuse Prevention Month. But we shouldn’t need a special month to realize that we can each play a role in helping the most vulnerable children in our community.
Many nonprofit agencies in our area serve children who have been abused, neglected, and left without hope of a safe and healthy future. As a retired social worker, I’ve seen hundreds of these situations firsthand. Now, I’m very proud to be part of Friends of Children, Inc., which provides independent advocacy, direct support to children in foster care, and community education.
Friends of Children gives voice to the true needs of children who can’t always speak for themselves. If you want to stand up for children this month — or any time — learn more by going to www.friendsofchildreninc. Get informed about the issues and meet our advocates and friends Friday, May 13, at our annual Red Shoe Ball Benefit, highlighting the timeless wish of every child to live safely and securely.
It is never too late to get involved!
