I have read with interest letters to the editor concerning people riding bikes on city roads.
I have experiences I would like to share, one in particular that happened on King Street in Northampton. I was parked on King Street, standing approximately 5 feet away on the sidewalk, when a person riding a bike struck my vehicle. I was required to pay $800 for the repairs to my vehicle.
If people riding bikes are given special lanes and crossing and using city roads, should they not have a responsibility if they cause damages to a vehicle or a pedestrian? I would propose that bikes be registered and insured to use city roads.
