AMHERST – Amherst Police are bringing charges against a Holyoke man allegedly responsible for damaging kiosks at a Route 9 car wash and stealing money stored inside them in March.

Detective Jamie Reardon said Thursday that the 35-year-old man will be summoned to court on charges of wanton destruction of property over $250 and breaking into a depository following the incident at the F.L. Roberts gasoline station and car wash, 397 Northampton Road, that was reported at 8:20 a.m. March 31.

The man allegedly caused extensive damage to two kiosks at the car wash building to get to the money, Reardon said. Police did not divulge the amount of money stolen.

Reardon said the investigation was completed with assistance from police departments in other communities that discovered identical activity.

The man also will face charges in those communities where he allegedly committed similar criminal acts, Reardon said.
