GRANBY – The May 16 election results are now official. After a recount, Stephen Anthony Chojnacki has been declared the winner in the Select Board race to succeed Mary McDowell, who did not seek reelection.
After the initial count, second place finisher Glenn Sextonย trailed by six votes,ย 216-210. After reviewing the ballots, officialsย determined that he had actually received one fewer vote, for a total of 209.
The recount affirmed the vote totals for two other contenders. Wayne Tack, a former Select Board member, received 173 votes and write-in candidate Jennifer Silva received 43 votes.
Chojnacki pledged to seek state aid to hire a grant writer to benefit Granby and to encourage more people in town to volunteer for civic duties. He said, โI congratulate each of my opponents for having run a good and clean campaign, and thank the voters for having elected me.โ
In the other contested race on the ballot, Jay Joyce won a five-year seat on the Planning Board with 337 votes to Shawn Shephardโs 197 votes.
According to Town Clerk Katherine Kelly Regan, 656 people came out to cast ballots, or 14 percent of the townโs 4,533 registered voters.
