Challenging Trump’s claims about judge

Donald Trump is suggesting that U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who is assigned to the class action suit against Trump University, recuse himself.

Trump claims that the judge’s Mexican heritage (his parents are Mexican emigrants) would prejudice the judge against Trump because of Trump’s anti-Mexican political statements. Suppose that only one of Curiel’s parents had been an emigrant from Mexico. Suppose that the judge’s parents had been born in the United States but all four, or perhaps only some, of his grandparents had been emigrants from Mexico. If Trump’s argument has any validity, which has been broadly challenged, then how many generations back would his questioned logic therefore apply? Doesn’t Trump’s thinking stink of ethnic cleansing?
