DEERFIELD — A Connecticut man admitted to sufficient facts for a guilty finding during his arraignment in Greenfield District Court Tuesday after being arrested over the weekend on suspicion of drunken driving.

Gregory Golinski, 63, of Simsbury, Conn., was arrested early Saturday morning after police say he drove his vehicle over a curb onto a sidewalk that connects Albany Road and Old Main Street.

He was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation. Golinski was found not responsible for the marked lanes violation, and the prosecution requested that the charge of negligent operation be dismissed.

According to a report by Deerfield Police Officer Brent Griffin, a security officer at Deerfield Academy told police that Golinski was seen driving through the intersection, over a curb and onto the pedestrian walkway.

Golinski told police he had been drinking at his reunion party at Deerfield Academy, according to the report, and did not remember how he ended up driving onto the sidewalk.

Griffin wrote Golinski was bleeding from a cut on his nose, which he received from driving over the curb, and had bloodshot, glossy eyes and smelled of alcohol.

Golinski was unable to complete a series of field sobriety tests, according to the report, and a portable breath test showed he had a blood alcohol content of 0.22 percent — nearly three times the legal limit of 0.8 percent.

He was placed under arrest and a breath test showed he had a blood alcohol content of 0.18 percent during booking.

Golinski was released on personal recognizance following his arraignment and received one year of probation, a 45-day loss of license and was ordered to complete a Driver Alcohol Education Program.
