Season highlights: McCann didn’t lose a match her entire senior year at Amherst, going 17-0. McCann didn’t lose a set until the state semifinals. The Hurricanes came up short in the Western Massachusetts tournament, losing 3-2 to Longmeadow in the semifinals. Individually, McCann won a second straight Western Mass. title, beating Hailey Gurski of Minnechaug 6-1, 6-0. From there, she beat Ada Wiggins of Burlington 6-1, 6-4 to claim her first individual state title.
McCann on her favorite moment this season: “Definitely winning states was awesome and fun. But when we beat Minnechaug when they were undefeated it was exciting because it wasn’t expected. It as a great moment for the whole team.
McCann on playing college tennis at Dartmouth: “I think it will be hard and fun to have a lot of tough competition. I am looking forward to the challenge. I am going to work hard this summer to prepare.
I am going to have to be extra aggressive, you can’t just stay back against good players.”
Amherst coach and mother Gloria McCann on Allison: “She had a great season. Even at the beginning she knew it would be great. Especially at states. She wanted to give it another shot and was successful. It will be a transition to play at a higher level at Dartmouth. She will work on being more aggressive. But she has seen that level of play at USTA tournaments.”
