Produced by the local ensemble TheatreTruck, the annual 19th-Century Children’s Circus at the Emily Dickinson Museum in Amherst features a trio of characters, including: (1) The Ringmaster, who can transform audience members into elephants, ponies, lions, fortune-tellers, trapeze artists and clowns;
(2), The Child, who has slipped through time from the 19th century to relate tales of her life and adventures and of her friend Miss Emily, who lives in the big house;
(3) Miss Emily herself, who’s a grown-up but not like other grown-ups — rather, an impish aunt with a trickster’s outlook, who is delighted to host a circus in her gardens.
Running 1-4 p.m. Saturday on the lawn of the Dickinson homestead, the circus is designed for ages 3-10, with an admission of $5 per family. emilydickinsonmuseum.org
