EASTHAMPTON — A fire caused $100,000 worth of damage to a house at 22-24 Davis St. in Easthampton late Monday night, and sent one resident to the hospital.
The fire started in a first-floor bedroom and caused “heavy damage” to the exterior and the roof of the house, according to a statement issued by the Easthampton Fire Department.
Firefighters responded at 11:17 p.m. and were able to contain the main blaze by about midnight, said Easthampton Fire Chief David Mottor. Crews from Northampton, Southampton, Westhampton, Holyoke, Westfield, South Hadley, Amherst, and Westover responded, and some remained after the main fire was out to deal with small “spot fires.”
Mottor said that the building will likely need a new roof and extensive repairs but that the second floor is largely intact, save for water, smoke, and heat damage.
One resident was transported to a hospital, according to the Easthampton Fire Department. Andy Rogers of Westfield, who identified himself as the resident’s son, commented on the Easthampton Fire Department’s Facebook pagethat he “has been discharged and is doing well.”
The cause of the fire is undetermined after an investigation by the fire marshal’s office, according to the Easthampton Fire Department. Officials said the fire is “not believed to be suspicious.”
