NORTHAMPTON – The death of her father, a retired police chief, in May prompted a baker at the Bluebonnet Diner to buy lunch for two Massachusetts State Police troopers on Friday.
According to the state police Facebook page, the troopers assigned to the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section were having lunch when their server brought them a note from an employee in the kitchen. It read: “Your lunch is on me! My dad, a retired police chief, passed in May. This is in honor of him and all police! Enjoy, a BBD employee.”
Steven Belmore, the night manager of the Bluebonnet Diner at 324 King St., on Saturday identified the employee as Virginia Inman, a baker who normally works an early shift. She was not working at the diner Saturday and could not be reached for comment.
Her father, Charles W. Inman, of Westhampton, died May 18 at age 81. A truck driver, he had served as police chief and highway superintendent in Westhampton, and also had been a member of that town’s Fire Department.
Belmore said diner employees were talking about the state police Facebook post when he arrived at work Saturday.
“I thought it was great,” Belmore said of Inman’s gesture in memory of her father.
