Parts of western Massachusetts are under a heat advisory for much of the day Monday and could see thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

The heat advisory, which covers eastern Hampshire and Hampden counties was triggered by forecasted heat index values of more than 100 degrees, National Weather Service spokesperson Rebecca Gould said. Actual temperatures are forecasted to be in the mid-90s, but high humidity will push the “feel” to 100 degrees or more.

“If you can stay inside, stay inside, especially if you have air conditioning,” Gould said. “Drink plenty of water. Stay out of the sun, especially when it’s 10 (a.m.) to 4 (p.m.), when the sun is the strongest. If you’re outside, wear light, loose clothing.”

There’s also a 40 percent chance of any one location getting thunderstorms, Gould said.

“Where you are, you might get rain, but five miles away might get a downpour,” she said.
