A pair of local teams fell short of Western Massachusetts Suburban Softball League championships Wednesday.

West Springfield beat Southampton, 8-1, at Mittneague Park to win the 12-and-under title.

Turners Falls edged Frontier, 8-7, to win the 14-and-under crown.

West Springfield 8, Southampton 1 โ€” A five-run fourth inning boosted West Springfield past Southampton.

Katie Joyner and Hannah Wodecki each had a hit for Southampton, and Lauren Campbell scored its lone run.

Joyner took the loss on the mound, striking out three and giving up four hits.

Tessa Pond earned the win for West Springfield with seven strikeouts.

Turners Falls 8, Frontier 7 โ€” Four runs in the bottom of the third inning gave Turners Falls the edge over Frontier.

Frontier took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second thanks to an RBI single from Maegan Quinlan.

Turners Falls answered in the third, fourth and fifth innings, taking an 8-4 lead into the seventh.

A three-run rally in the top of the seventh closed the gap but it was not enough for Frontier.

Hailey Bigwood hit an RBI double and Natalie Denkiewicz hit an RBI triple in the top of the seventh for Frontier.

Gabby Palmisano had a triple, and Grace Wesoloski and Quinlan had a single each.
