The rain comes on hard and then fades, back and forth all night. The parched earth is delirious. The light appears. Then begins the dreary, incessant pounding of cars whizzing past.
Morning in America!
The political campaigns are a zoo parade. The poll-driven politicians spoon-feed us whatever they think we want to hear and when elected do as they please.
All over the world it’s the same: the higher-level politicians either come from the monied class or quickly are ushered into this elite fold. Did you ever hear of a former minister of government panhandling on the street after running into steep medical bills?
Never happens! Government is a big cash cow if you’re an insider. Gifts come flooding into Washington by the plane-loads from business people who want special attention. (“Me! Me! Over here, Senator, Me!”)
In the hallowed halls of Congress fortunes are passed around like the latest fad. It seems so normal to be corrupt in that jambalya environment. Everybody’s doing it.
Who wouldn’t? Life is so much more glamorous if you’re on the make. The children get to go to better schools. One’s wardrobe is so much softer with that little flag in the lapel. It takes a saint to say no to a nice fat bribe.
Saint Hillary, save us!
