EASTHAMPTON – Quitting smoking can be difficult, and a free eight-week workshop that begins Wednesday aims to help people kick the habit.
“How to Quit Smoking” will begin Aug. 31 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building on Payson Avenue. It is free of charge and handicapped accessible.
Smokers will learn how to understand more about when and why they smoke, the pros and cons of quitting, new ways to quit and stay smoke-free and have the support of other fellow smoking quitters to share ideas, coping strategies and inspiration, according to Sandra Mandel, who is leading the workshop.
Mandel has been trained at the Center for Tobacco Treatment, Research and Training at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and is certified by the American Lung Association’s smoking cessation program. She is also a former smoker.
Registration is required. To register contact the Easthampton Health Department at health2@easthampton.org or call 529-1430.
