The small airplane that made an emergency landing on a Quabbin Reservoir sandbar Tuesday was moved to the Orange Municipal Airport via helicopter Wednesday afternoon.

The pilot, a 42-year-old Newport, Rhode Island man, landed on the sandbar Tuesday afternoon after experiencing engine trouble.

State and federal officials from several agencies met Wednesday to determine how to best remove the single-engine Seawind plane. Ultimately its owner hired a private company to remove the aircraft. The company tethered the plane to a helicopter and towed it to the nearby Orange Municipal Airport, according to State Trooper Paul Sullivan.

State Police continue to investigate Tuesday’s landing in the town of New Salem. No charges have been filed, and the pilot’s name has not been released, Sullivan said. No injuries were reported.
