AMHERST — The University of Massachusetts Amherst Police Department will reroute traffic during the holiday weekend as students move into their dormitories for the fall semester.
Southbound traffic along University Drive will be prohibited on Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., during which time motorists are encouraged to use Route 116, Rocky Hill Road or North Pleasant Street to access Amity Street and the southern side of University Drive.
From 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, northbound traffic will also be blocked on University Drive beginning at Amity Street and on Sunset Avenue starting at Fearing Street. Northbound traffic will be prohibited in the same fashion on Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Also on Sunday, traffic on Commonwealth Avenue will shift into the sounthbound lanes while the northbound lanes are used as loading zones.
