HOLYOKE – Former congressman Barney Frank is scheduled to speak at a Democratic Committee fundraiser at the Delaney House on Oct. 15.

Frank represented 4th Congressional District of Massachusetts from 1981 to 2013.

“His leadership on gay rights has had a large effect on the area,” Holyoke Democratic Committee Chair Ray Drewnowski said. “He’s been an example, an inspiration, to so many people.”

The fundraiser will raise money for the democratic committees of Easthampton, Southampton and Holyoke.

Drewnowksi said that Frank is a supporter of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and hopes the event will “fire up” local activists.

With the Nov. 8 election not long after the event, Shannon Greenwood, of the Easthampton Democratic Committee, said “the timing is exciting.”

In addition to a cocktail hour and dinner, there will be a book-signing for Frank’s memoir “Frank: A Life in Politics from the Great Society to Same-Sex Marriage.” Copies will be available for purchase at the event.

“It’s a great way to unite area Democrats,” Greenwood said.

Tickets are $40 each and $400 to reserve a table for 10, and must be purchased in advance. For tickets and more information visit the event’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/events/158320177934234/
