Have you noticed that supporters of Mr. Tweeters often use labels to describe those with whom they disagree? A recent letter-writer and certainly Donald Trump backers up the food chain say things like “liberals” had their chance or “progressive” ideas have failed.

They decline to recognize that, for the last eight years, a Republican Congress has obstructed nearly every effort to resolve the nation’s issues. Prior to that, a Republican president and Congress had every opportunity to address some of our biggest issues.

Let’s take an honest look at history. An incompetent, Republican-appointed FEMA director made a hash of hurricane recovery. The neo-cons advising George W. Bush underestimated everything about their war, leaving our economy in ruin, returning veterans with utterly inadequate care and such a gaping vacuum in Middle East politics that it gave rise to today’s terrorist organizations.

They denied global warming, drove up the price of gasoline and divided the country along partisan lines. Therein lies a legacy of failure and squandered chances.

Some honest and accurate labeling would be welcome. My candidate may bend the truth and disparage people of other races, but I support him anyway. They just can’t get themselves to say it.
