NORTHAMPTON – The newly restored, century-old Seth Thomas clock will be rededicated Thursday evening by Mayor David J. Narkewicz.
At 4 p.m., a crane will arrive to install the clock, produced by famed clockmaker Seth Thomas, in the plaza area of Pulaski Park on Main Street. The public is invited to attend the rededication ceremony.
In 1910, Mayor Calvin Coolidge dedicated the then-new Seth Thomas Clock on Main Street at Strong Avenue, according to Narkewicz. The clock, which was privately owned, stood there until 1996, at which point the owner removed it and put it into storage.
The city of Northampton purchased the clock using Community Preservation Act (CPA) dollars. They hired Peter Nunes, an antique clock restoration specialist, to restore it.
