Bryce Ciambella pops up when the Amherst College men’s soccer team needs a goal.

The sophomore who scored the game-winner in last year’s national championship game came through again Saturday, scoring an unassisted golden goal in the 108th minute to give Amherst a 3-2 win over No. 5 Wesleyan on Saturday in Middletown, Connecticut.

Amherst (12-1-1, 7-1-1 NESCAC) trailed 2-0 in the 74th minute and scored twice in the game’s final six minutes to send it to ovetime.

Rohan Sood put Amherst on the scoreboard from Bijan Zojaji in the 84th minute.

Cameron Hardington tied the game unassisted in the 88th.

Lee Owen made five saves for Amherst.

UMass 1, VCU 0 (OT) — Josh Jess headed a winner into the Rams net with 20 seconds left on the clock Saturday.

Ty Goncalves struck the corner kick to pick up the assist, while Jorge Becera made two saves to keep the clean sheet.

UMass (5-7-3, 2-1-2 A-10) has five shutouts this season.

Football

Wesleyan 20, Amherst 0 — Amherst quarterback Nick Morales threw five interceptions in a road loss Saturday.

Jack Hickley led Amherst (3-2) with 33 yards rushing, while Devin Boehm had 73 yards receiving.

Morales went 18-of-39 for 165 yards through the air.

Women’s soccer

Amherst 2, Wesleyan 0 — Two second half goals gave Amherst its eighth consecutive win Saturday.

Emily Hester scored assisted by Maeve McNamara in the 53rd minute, and Hannah Guzzi found the net unassisted in the 61st minute.

Erica Sanders made seven saves in the shutout.

Wellesley 2, Smith 2 — The Pioneers scored twice Saturday in a home tie.

Jordan Isaacs pulled Smith (7-5-5) level in the 68th minute, and Emily Smith scored in the 80th after Wellesley had retaken the lead.

Alanna Lynch made 10 saves for Smith.

UMass 3, VCU 0 — Megan Burke, Gabriela Kenyon Salma Anastasio scored for the Minutewomen in a home win Sunday.

Daniela Alvarez and Paige Kozlowski had assists for UMass (3-9-3, 1-5-2 A10), while Cassidy Babin made seven saves for a shutout.

Field hockey

Amherst 4, Wesleyan 0 — Sarah Culhane scored twice and had an asisst in a road win Saturday.

Mary Grace Cronin had the other two Amherst (11-3, 6-3 NESCAC) goals, while Shannon Tierney and Caroline Feeley added assists.

Emily Horwitz made one save for the shutout.

Smith 3, Springfield 1 — Julia Hamilton netted a hat trick in a home win Saturday.

Caroline Labriola had an assist, and Cameo Tietje made five saves for Smith (9-7, 5-2 NEWMAC).

MIT 2, Mount Holyoke — Liz DiCesare mdae six saves in a home loss Saturday.

Colby Newsham led the Lyons (9-6, 4-3 NEWMAC) with two shots on goal.

UMass 4, La Salle 1 — The Minutewomen scored four unanswered goals to win on the road Sunday.

Sarah Hawkshaw, Celina Hocks, Nicole Miller and Melanie Kreusch found the net.

Miller and Nicole Kuerzi addes assists, while Emily Hazard stopped two shots in the UMass (10-7, 5-2 A10) net.

Women’s volleyball

Emmanuel 3, Smith 1; Bridgewater State 3, Smith 1 — Kimani Freeman totaled 28 kills in two home losses for the Pioneers on Saturday.

Smith (3-21) lost 25-17, 16-25, 27-25, 25-14 to Emmanuel and 25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 25-20 to Bridgewater State.

Mount Holyoke 3, Westfield State 0; Daniel Webster 3, Mount Holyoke 1 — Joy Maran led the Lyons with 23 kills in a split Saturday.

Mount Holyoke (5-15) beat Westfield State 25-22, 25-14, 25-14 and lost to Daniel Webster 25-23, 25-27, 21-25, 25-13.

Women’s swimming

Boston University 174, UMass 121 — Ansley Baker won the 100-meter breaststroke in 1 minute, 6.28 seconds, and Emma Roush took both the one-meter and three-meter diving events, but the Minutewomen (0-2) fell on the road.
