One of Poland’s oldest musical institutions, the Warsaw Philharmonic was founded in 1901 by a group of Polish aristocrats and has over the past century collaborated with many of the epoch’s great composers (Grieg, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Ravel, Saint-Saëns, Richard Strauss, Igor Stravinsky).
Currently embarked on its fourth U.S. tour since 2004, the ensemble will be at the UMass Fine Arts Center Concert Hall Sunday for a performance of Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3, featuring the 2015 International Chopin Piano Competition winner Seong-Jin Cho (pictured). The program will also include Polish Melodies No. 2 by Mieczyslaw Weinberg.
