The UMass hockey team scored four goals in the third period, but it wasn’t enough to overcome No. 8 Boston College in a 7-4 loss, Saturday at the Mullins Center.

The Minutemen (2-4-0, 0-2-0 Hockey East) closed within 5-2, but the Eagles (6-2-1, 2-0-1) added two more goals to seal the win.

Austin Plevy, Patrick Lee, Ryan Badger and Kurt Keats scored the UMass.

Nic Renyard made 29 saves in defeat.

Men’s soccer

UMass 1, George Washington 0 — Connor O’Dwyer’s goal in the 19th minute was the difference Saturday.

Jorge Becerra made one save for the Minutemen (6-7-3, 3-1-2), who made Atlantic 10 history with the shutout. For the first time since the A-10 began sponsoring men’s soccer in 1987, UMass’ defense did not allow a goal at home during conference play.

Elms 1, Regis 0 — Scott Labrie (Southampton) scored the game-winner with 13 minutes to play as the Blazers (4-13-1) won on the road Saturday.

Women’s soccer

Dayton 3, UMass 1 — Laura Johns scored but the Minutewomen (3-11-3, 1-7-1 Atlantic 10) saw their season come to end on the road Sunday.

Wheaton 4, Smith 0 — Shelby Hall (three saves) and Alanna Lynch (one) shared time in net for the visiting Pioneers (8-6-5, 2-5-3 NEWMAC) Saturday.

WPI 3, Mount Holyoke 0 — Zoe Marshall made nine saves but the Lyons (8-10, 2-8 NEWMAC) lost in Worcester Saturday.

Elms 6, Mitchell 0 — Jackie Soucia (Belchertown) had a goal and an assist, while Rachel Connell (Easthampton) and Kelsey Shea (Belchertown) each had one goal for the Blazers (16-3-1) in the NECC Tournament quarterfinals, Saturday.

Field hockey

Hamilton 1, Amherst 0 — Emily Horwitz made seven saves but visiting Amherst (11-5) fell in the NESCAC quarterfinals, Saturday.

Mount Holyoke 4, Wheaton 0 — Kaitlin Braz, Sophie Perekslis, Kathryn Rawson and Cymone Martin each scored as the Lyons (11-6, 5-3 NEWMAC) won on the road Saturday.

Smith 2, Clark 1 — Julia Hamilton and Elsie Odhiambo each scored as the Pioneers (10-8, 6-2 NEWMAC) won at home Saturday.

Women’s volleyball

Amherst 3, Wesleyan 2 — Maggie Danner had 24 kills, Charlotte Duran added 25 assists and Hayes Honea chipped in with 22 digs as Amherst (16-8, 7-3 NESCAC) won 23-25, 25-18, 18-25, 25-20, 15-8 Saturday at home.

WPI 3, Mount Holyoke 0 — Cameron Graham had 18 digs and Natalie Lyon had 19 assists but the Lyons (5-17, 0-9 NEWMAC) fell 25-21, 30-28, 25-11 at home Saturday.

Wheaton 3, Smith 0 — Maca Rojas had 13 assists and Julie Voorhes added 13 digs but the Pioneers (4-22, 1-9 NEWMAC) were swept 25-17, 25-14, 25-16 at home Saturday.

Newbury 3, Elms 0 — Hannah Adams (Deerfield) had five kills and 12 digs, while Haley Asselin (South Hadley) chipped in with three kills but the Blazers (5-20, 2-6 NECC) finished their season at home Saturday.

Men’s cross country

Atlantic 10 Championships — Paolo Tavares finished 21st in 25:27.9 on the 5-mile course as UMass placed ninth Saturday.

NESCAC Championship — Mohamed Hussein placed fifth in 26:04.54 on the 8-kilometer course as Amherst (100) finished second to Williams (83), Saturday at Colby.

Amherst native Connor Evans (26:57.65) was 31st for third-place Middlebury.

Women’s cross country

Atlantic 10 Championships — Heather MacLean placed first in 17:06.8 on the 5-kilometer course as UMass placed fifth Saturday.

NESCAC Championship — Katherine Treanor was third in 22:53.45 on the 6-kilometer course as Amherst placed fifth, Saturday at Colby.

Caroline Sullivan (South Hadley) was 50th in 24:32.81 for 10th-place Trinity.

NEWMAC championships — Casey Hecox finished 13th in 19:48 on the 5-kilometer as host Smith placed fourth.

Sara Vannah (Amherst) finished 12th in 19:44 for second-place Wellesley.

Alicia Moroyoqui was 42nd in 21:11 for ninth-place Mount Holyoke.

Women’s rowing

Seven Sisters Championship — Wellesley finished with 30 points to edge Smith (28) and Simmons (22), Sunday on the Connecticut River in Hadley.

Mount Holyoke was fourth (19) followed by Bryn Mawr (11).

The Pioneers placed first in the Varsity 8 in 17:38. Mount Holyoke was second in 18:19.

Cali Nathanson, Olivia Shaw and Jessica Keast were named to the All-Regatta Team for Smith.

Ariya Lawson, Meg Ryan and Liz Hazen were named to the All-Regatta Team for Mount Holyoke.

Head of the Fish — UMass coach Jim Dietz place first in the Veteran Men’s 1x as the Minutewomen tallied six medals in Saratoga Springs, New York, Saturday.
