Nicole Miller tapped in a rebound to secure the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship.

The UMass senior scored with 3 minutes, 31 seconds left to beat top-seeded Saint Joseph’s 2-1 in the title game Sunday in Richmond, Virginia.

Izzie Delario originally put UMass (13-7) ahead in the 28th minute on an assist from Sarah Hawkshaw, but Saint Joseph’s equalized in the second half.

Emily Hazard made two saves for the Minutewomen.

The win clinches a guaranteed NCAA Tournament berth for UMass. The Minutewomen will play at Monmouth on Wednesday in a playin game. The winner travels to No. 2 Maryland.

MIT 3, Smith 2 — The Pioneers couldn’t advance to the NEWMAC final Saturday.

Northampton graduate Emily Biggs scored the Pioneers first goal in the 46th minute to cut Smith’s deficit to 2-1.

Babson 1, Mount Holyoke 0 — Liz DiCesare made seven saves, but the Lyons couldn’t advance to the NEWMAC final.

Men’s soccer

La Salle 1, UMass 0 — Jorge Becerra made nine saves in a Saturday loss that slotted the Minutemen fourth in the Atlantic 10 tournament.

UMass (7-8-3) will play No. 5 VCU on Thursday at 2 p.m. in Davidson, North Carolina.

Yale 225, UMass 75; Brown 224, UMass 76 — Trent Kindvall won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events against Brown and Yale on Saturday in Providence, Rhode Island.

Women’s Swimming & Diving

Yale 225, UMass 75; Brown 228, UMass 72 — Freshman diver Maja Boric finished second in the three-meter diving event, putting up another NCAA Zone score.

She also was second in the one-meter, an event she’d already qualified for zones in.

Mount Holyoke 137, New England 125 — Katie Tyler set a pool record in the 50-yard butterfly at 27.7 seconds, one of four first-place finishes by her.

She also won the 50 freestyle and was on the 200-yard medley relay team.

The Lyons 200-yard freestyle relay of Emily Craig, Topaz Mukulu, Anne Kuenning and Tyler also set a pool record in 1:46.55.

Football

Trinity 24, Amherst 14 — Nick Morales threw two touchdowns, but Amherst lost for the second game in a row.

Devin Boehm caught six passes for 47 yards and a score, while Bo Berluti had five catches for 34 yards and a touchdown.

Nick led Amherst (3-4) with 59 yards on just seven carries.
