NORTHAMPTON — Police and emergency crews responded to the scene of a two-car crash at Route 5 and Island Road in Northampton Wednesday shortly after 2 p.m.

One vehicle landed on its roof next to a home and another came to a rest on the nearby railroad tracks, leaving the tracks impassible for trains.

Northampton Fire Capt. Andy Breen said the drivers of the vehicles suffered only minor injuries and did not expect ambulance crews would have to transport anyone to the hospital.

He said the the two drivers were the only people in the cars involved and that they were both already outside of their vehicles when crews arrived.

The two cars appeared to be a green Scion hatchback, which landed on the train tracks, and a Mitsubishi sedan, which landed upside down in front of a house on the corner of Route 5 and Island Road.

Breen said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
