EASTHAMPTON — An Easthampton man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges stemming from an incident in which he allegedly slapped and pushed his mother and hit her over the head with a walker on Sunday.

Benjamin J. Biladeau, 35, was arraigned in Northampton District Court on charges of assault and battery on a person over 60 and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Biladeau’s 62-year-old mother told police the dispute started Sunday when he started yelling about drugs, according to the Easthampton Police Department.

He picked up a kitchen chair and threw it several times, the mother told police. Biladeau then slapped his mother in the face and pushed her before picking up his grandmother’s walker and hitting his mother in the head with it, the police report states.

When the mother got in her car to leave the scene, Biladeau grabbed onto the spoiler on the back of the vehicle and held on, according to police. His mother sped up, causing Biladeau to fall on the roadway, the report states.

The mother told police she drove directly to the police department, the report states.

Officer Robert J. Pouska arrived to the home at about 2:47 p.m. Sunday, responding to an abandoned 911 call at 13 Johnson Ave. to find Biladeau with a minor abrasion on his head. He told police he was dragged from a car and fell.

At the time, his mother was at the public safety complex where she filled out a statement. After speaking with Biladeau, Pouska returned to the complex to speak with his mother.

Biladeau’s next court date is scheduled for March 3.
