EASTHAMPTON — Authorities were investigating Tuesday after several bombs were found on the banks of the Lower Mill Pond Sunday night.

In a Tuesday afternoon Facebook post, Easthampton Police Chief Robert J. Alberti said officers were dispatched to the Ferry Street area around 9:30 p.m. Sunday after a report of explosions. The department received “several” 911 calls reporting explosions near the Pleasant Street area, the post said.

Alberti said officers found detonated explosive devices as well as undetonated ones along the southern bank of the pond. Officers summoned bomb technicians with the Massachusetts State Police to make “the area safe.”

The investigation was ongoing Tuesday, the chief wrote, with Easthampton detectives, the FBI, the state fire marshal’s office and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisting.

Those with information can call Easthampton detectives at 413-527-1212.

No one with the Easthampton Police Department was immediately available for comment Tuesday night.
