The PVCICS boys tennis team rolled past Pope Francis, 5-0, at the Hampshire College tennis courts for its fourth straight win.
Each doubles match could have gone either way, but it was the Dragons who prevailed. PVCICS’ first doubles pair of Simon Speek and Ethan Wang came back to win 1-6, 7-6 (7-3), 13-11, while second doubles of James Ferrer and Alexander Rachele outlasted the Cardinals for a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 victory.
Lee Ferguson, Derek Ye and Devan Ye all took care of business in singles as the Dragons moved to 7-2 on the season.
PVCICS will travel to the state’s capital next to take on Boston Latin Academy on Friday at 4 p.m.
Softball
Hampshire 16, Agawam 2 — The Raiders rolled over the Brownies, smacking 17 hits in the blowout win.
Raegan Dubay (home run, four RBIs) and Rachael Hickox (4-for-4) had the best day’s at the plate for Hampshire.
Ryanne Dubay was solid in the circle, finishing with four hits and two runs allowed while walking three and striking out seven.
Granby 13, Smith Academy 2 — Meredith Bartosz was firing on all cylinders for the Rams in the huge win over the Falcons.
Bartosz fanned 11 batters from the circle, plus posted a pair of hits to lead Granby.
Kara White (3-for-4, two RBIs) also swung the bat well for the Rams.
Nataly Slysz (triple) and Madelyn Barrett (double) were bright spots for Smith Academy.
Baseball
Amherst 13, Mahar 3 โ Greg King’s six-inning one hit, nine strikeout perfromance on the mound led the Hurricanes to an impressive, six-inning victory on Tuesday night.
Wayne Dowd went 2-for-4 on the day for Amherst, driving in a game-high three runs at the plate. Brady Klaes also went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, while Daniel Lebron finished a flawless 3-for-3 at the dish.
Mount Everett 5, South Hadley 3 โ The Tigers couldn’t keep up with a 12-hit day at the plate from the Eagles, leading to a tough loss.
Logan Carpenter led the way for South Hadley offensively, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Lincoln Belsky also tallied multiple hits in the loss, finishing 2-for-4 with a single and a double of his own.
Palmer 7, Smith Voc. 2 โ The Vikings offense struggled in a tough loss to the Panthers on Tuesday night.
Cayden Dionne did his best to keep his squad in the contest, tying the game in the fourth inning after falling down early with a two-RBI single.
Boys lacrosse
Amherst 10, Pope Francis 9 — The Hurricanes won the back-and-forth battle with the Cardinals, thanks largely to five goals from Nate Desbien.
Sawyer Ferro added a hat trick for Amherst, with Tri Nguyen and Gavin Duncan each dishing out three assists.
In net for the ‘Canes, Jason Kim had 13 saves.
Boys volleyball
Granby 3, Frontier 0 — The Rams swept the Redhawks for the second time this season, this time on their home court.
Set scores were 25-12, 25-21, 25-15.
Jake Gagnon, Richard Sweet and Daniel Santiago all thrashed four kills for Granby.
Veritas 3, Belchertown 1 — The Orioles avoided a sweep by winning the third set, but could not maintain that momentum in the defeat.
Set scores read 21-25, 19-25, 25-22 and 23-25.
Gavin Couchon had 11 kills and 11 digs for Belchertown.
Outdoor track
Hampshire 125, Monson 16 (boys) — The Raiders dominated, winning all but one event against the Mustangs.
Harrison Farrar (discus, javelin, shot put) led Hampshire with three individual wins.
Hampshire 97, Monson 47 (girls) — Meghan Wood finished first in the triple jump and high jump as the Raiders raced past the Mustangs.
Charlotte Niswonger grabbed a pair of second-place finishes (pole vault, two mile) to help Hampshire pull away.

Softball
Smith Voc’s Grace Sampson secured her 100th career strikeout in the Vikings’ 22-11 win over Gateway in Huntington on Monday night.
Sampson is a sophomore and has been vital in Smith Voc’s 5-2 record to date.

Baseball
Smith Voc. 8, McCann Tech 6 โ Timely offense led to a narrow victory for the Vikings over the Hornets, working around 15 allowed baserunners in the win.
Logan Brothers led the way, going 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs for Smith Voc. Gavin Kuchuca also went 2-for-3 at the plate, adding a walk and a run scored.
Wahconah 8, Hampshire 3 โ The Raiders’ late attempt at a comeback fizzled out after surrendering six runs in the fifth inning.
Riley Florek led Hampshire offensively, going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Tom Moore had a pair of hits of his own, finishing 2-for-4 with a double.
Girls lacrosse
Wahconah 14, South Hadley 5 — Two goals from Ella Haber highlighted a tough game from the Tigers.
Dee Haber totaled 14 saves in goal for South Hadley.
East Longmeadow 17, Northampton 10 — The Blue Devils dropped their third straight decision in the road loss.
Imanni Power-Greene starred on offense, scoring six goals and handing out a couple of assists.
Girls tennis
West Springfield 3, Holyoke 2 — The Purple Knights took wins in second singles and first doubles, but fell to 2-5 on the season.
Abby Ngure won 6-3, 6-2, while Nora Proulx and Elena Carpentier registered a 6-0, 6-0 shutout in doubles.
