HOLYOKE — Two Vermont men were arrested on heroin-trafficking-related charges following a traffic stop in Holyoke on Saturday evening, police said.

Massachusetts State Police troopers stopped a Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Brandon Heist, 19, of Springfield, Vermont, with Kyle Darrell, 25, riding passenger, according to a news release. The stop happened at about 10 p.m. along Interstate 91, near the 16.4 mile-marker, police said. It was not immediately clear why the Cavalier was stopped by authorities.

Authorities charged Heist with trafficking heroin, conspiracy to violate drug laws, operating with a suspended license and a license plate violation. Darrell was charged with trafficking heroin and failure to wear a seat belt.

Both are expected to be arraigned Monday in Holyoke District Court.
