NORTHAMPTON — U.S. Sen. Edward Markey will convene a town hall meeting Thursday night which is expected to focus, among other issues, on President Trump’s rollout of an executive order that barred immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries and new deportation guidelines, according to his office.

Markey will play host to the event which runs from 6 to 8 p.m. in Sweeney Concert Hall, 144 Green St., at Smith College. Mayor David Narkewicz and Smith College President Kathleen McCartney are also expected to be in attendance. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the town hall is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m., according to Markey’s office.

The Senate entered a recess period Feb. 20 that will last through Feb. 24. During the brief congressional hiatus, many lawmakers return to their home states to hear from constituents.

While the meeting, which Markey’s office described as an “emergency town hall discussion,” will focus on the travel ban and President Trump’s recently issued deportation guidelines, attendees will have the chance to enter into a dialogue with Markey and ask him questions.
