Amherst’s Michael Hixon is going to need a bigger trophy case.

The redshirt junior diver at Indiana won both the one-meter and three-meter events at the Big 10 Championships en route to being named first-team All-Big 10.

The Rio Olympics silver medalist scored 488.65 points on the 1-meter board, edging teammate and Australian Olympian James Connor, who had 487.5.

Hixon took first in the 3-meter with 520.4 points – a meet record and more than 10 points clear of Ohio State’s Collin Zeng.

He capped the championships with a sixth-place finish on the platform and helped the Hoosiers clinch the men’s team championship.

Men’s ice hockey

Providence 2, UMass 1 (OT) — Ray Pigozzi tied the game in the second period, but the Minutemen lost in overtime Saturday.

Niko Hildenbrand and Steven Iacobellis picked up assists.

Ryan Wischow made 40 saves for UMass (5-27-2, 2-19-1 Hockey East).

Williams 2, Amherst 1 — Tyler Granara scored in the first period, but Amherst couldn’t hold on in the NESCAC quarterfinals Saturday on the road.

Noah Gilreath and David White added assists. Connor Girard made 26 saves.

Amherst (14-7-3) will now wait to see if it gets an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

Women’s ice hockey

Amherst 2, Trinity 0 — Sabrina Dobbins made 21 saves in a NESCAC quarterfinal shutout victory Saturday.

Alex Toupal found the net twice for Amherst (13-7-5) assisted by Katie Savage on the second one.

Williston Northampton grad Sydney Belinskas made 24 saves for Trinity, and Hadley’s Jessica Stowell, a Tabor Academy grad, took two shots for the Bantams.

Amherst will face Connecticut College on Saturday at Middlebury.

Women’s basketball

St. Louis 91, UMass 51 — Maggie Mulligan had 16 points and eight rebounds, but the Minutewomen lost in the first round of the A-10 Tournament.

Hailey Leidel added 14 points on four made 3-pointers.

Babson 83, Smith 59 — Paige Marquez scored 19 points, but the Pioneers fell in the NEWMAC semifinals Saturday.

Babson oturebounded Smith (18-9) 51-36.

Belchertown’s Téa Spellacy scored two points for the Beavers.

Men’s lacrosse

Harvard 11, UMass 7 — Tyler Bogart scored twice, but the Minutmen couldn’t overcome a 4-0 deficit after the first quarter Saturday.

Dan Muller, Jake Marino, Buddy Carr, Dom St. Laurent and Grant Consoletti also found the net for UMass (0-3).

Carr had two assists, while Consoletti, Luc Valenza Muller and Mike McDonough added one.

D.J. Smith made 10 saves for the Minutemen.

Women’s lacrosse

Gordon College 10, Mount Holyoke 5 — Julianna Rankin and Charlotte Wagner each scored twice in the Lyon’s season opener Saturday.

Mary LaVigne also found the net.

Northampton’s Leila Kouakou added an assist and took 12 shots with three ground balls. Haley Subocz, also from Northampton, added four draw controls and three ground balls.

Isa Rodriguez made eight saves for Mount Holyoke (0-1).

Syracuse 17, UMass 8 — Kiley Anderson scored four goals, but the Minutewomen lost on the road Saturday.

Kaitlyn Cerasi added a goal and two assists. Cassidy Doster scored two goals, while Callie Sandos chipped in a goal and an assist for UMass (1-3).

Lauren Hiller stopped 11 shots for the Minutewomen.

Softball

SIU Edwardsville 8, UMass 2; Baylor 3, UMass 2; Saint Francis 5, UMass 4 — Kaityln Stavinoha tallied two hits and seven RBIs in a tough weekend in Waco, Texas.

She hit a two-run double against Baylor and a grand slam against Saint Francis.

The Minutewomen (2-8) went 0-3.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving

Atlantic 10 Championships — South Hadley’s Meriza Werenksi won the women’s 400-yard individual medley in 4 minutes, 17.46 seconds.

She also took second in the 200 IM in 2:00.97, just losing to Richmond’s Morgan Soulia (2:00.33).

Emma Roush took first in both the women’s one-meter and three-meter diving events with 273 points and 293.25 points, respectively.

Roberty Barry took the men’s three-meter title with 297 points.

UMass finished third in both the men’s and women’s Atlantic 10 Championship meets.

The men had 449 points, while George Washington with 562.5. Richmond won the women’s meet with 570 points, while UMass had 457.

Women’s tennis

Yale 4, UMass 3 — Ruth Crawford won at the No. 1 position, beating Jiang 6-4, 3-6, 3-1, but the Minutewomen lost Saturday.

Ana Yrazusta at No. 3 and Brittany Collens at No. 6 also picked up victories, but the Minutewomen (5-4) lost the doubles point.

Men’s track and field

New England Championships — Brian Gendron was second in the 1,000-meter run in 2:26.38 for UMass.

Morgan Marlow also took second in the 3,000-meter run for the Minutemen in 8:28.65.

UMass took fourth as a team with 48 points.

Women’s track and field

New England Championships — UMass’ Kelsey Crawford won the shot put at 47 feet, 8 inches.

Emilie Cowan also finished first in the 800-meter run in 2:10.38 for the Minutewomen.

Amherst College’s Katherine Treanor was first in the 5,000-meter run at 17:12.48.

Zoe Rubinstein took second in the pole vault for Smith College at 11-11.75.

UMass finished fourth as a team with 48 points, while Amherst College was 16th with 15.

Smith scored 10 points and was 20th.
