NORTHAMPTON — A high wind warning is in effect for Western Massachusetts until 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Winds could gust up to 57 mph, though sustained winds are likely to be between 31 and 39 mph.

“Winds this strong are capable of downing small tree limbs and branches, possibly causing isolated power outages,” warns the advisory. “Driving can also be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.”

Some trees — and power lines — have already fallen, according to the Easthampton Police Department, which reported downed power lines in the area of Line Street near Phelps.

As of 6 p.m., the Eversource Outage Map showed 169 power outages in Easthampton and 297 in Southampton, while National Grid reported several outages in Granby.

The high winds accompany cold temperatures, which are expected to last throughout the weekend, leading to a predicted Nor’easter on Tuesday.
