HOLYOKE — Police say a man is in stable condition after being struck by a car in the early morning hours of Monday near Lower Westfield Road and Route 91.
The man was hit by a vehicle around 5 a.m., and authorities were immediately called to the scene, police said. The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators, police said. Initial media reports of the accident earlier Monday morning suggested the man was seriously injured. He was transported to Baystate Medical Center.
Police said it wasn’t immediately clear what precipitated the accident and that the cause was under investigation. As of 8 a.m., investigators and an accident reconstruction team remained on the scene, and traffic in the area of Lower Westfield Road and Whitings Farm Road was still being rerouted as of 8 a.m., authorities said.
